The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway

All summer long, I was really looking forward to pretending I was Queen Elsa from Frozen. Alex had been planning our trip to Norway for so many months, I wondered if he'd booked us down to the second. Luckily, we had plenty of time to relax, explore, and enjoy our beautiful surroundings.  This summer was particularly hot and humid in NYC and we needed some fun and relaxation in a cooler environment.

We started our trip in Bergen, the second largest city in Norway. We took a historic walking tour of Bryggen Bergen, visited a beautiful church, and walked through the fish market. An entire day was spent touring Sognefjord complete with a trip up the historic Flam railway and lunch at Aegir Brew Pub. We traveled out to Troldhaugen to see Edvard Greig's home and enjoy a concert at the most stunning concert venue. We had delicious dinners at Marg & Bein and Lysverket.

In order to travel up to the more serene parts of the fjords, we took a cruise ship overnight up to Alesund where we rented a car to drive around the picturesque fjords. We stayed at the most dreamy places: Hotel Union Oye, Juvet Landscape Hotel, and Storfjord Hotel. We hiked around the waterfalls at Geirangerfjord, up Slogen on Norangsfjord, and along a beautiful path with many sheep on Tafjord. Driving around the fjords was breathtakingly beautiful. We had to take a number of car ferries to get across the fjords and the views from these were simply amazing.

Our trip ended in Oslo where we had a few days to check out Norway's capitol. Our most memorable dinner of the trip was hands down at Maaemo - an incredibly special evening. We took a tour of the opera house, visited the Munch Museum and the viking ship museum. An amazing guide took us on a 3 hour walking tour to the grand palace and taught us a bit of Norwegian history.

I love our adventures exploring the world. I feel like a reset button has been pushed. We returned from Norway with a fresh start and clear heads.
