I GOT A NEW JOB!

I'll be working as a Development Associate at Weill Cornell Medical College in liaison with New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. It's a serious salary raise, a great job opportunity, and a staff full of warm, helpful, and knowledgeable people.

To get the job was quite a process. I had to submit both an online and a hand written application. I went through 3 interviews over the course of a month - one with my new boss, one with the head of the department that I will be working for, and one with a Human Resources representative. On top of that I had to ace an Excel project.

It was all worth it in the end!

My new office is on 52nd and 3rd so now I'll be working in Midtown East instead of Lincoln Center. (Hence "The Jefferson's" theme song as my blog post title).

I couldn't be more excited to start my next adventure. I'm happy to be putting my grad degree to use. I'm definitely ready to be making more money. It feels great to move up the ladder in the Big Apple.

If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere.

OK Cupid. Just Okay

As an active internet dater, I feel like it's my duty to report the positives and negatives of my internet dating experiences.

This review is based on my experience with the internet dating site okcupid.com. I've been on okcupid for about 7 months and haven't met anyone worth while. This is my second go around on okcupid. The first time around, I spent a good 6 months single before meeting my last boyfriend. I recently deleted my account. I'm just not willing to settle for a just okay online dating service.

The reasons why okcupid is just okay -

-Since it's free, there are a lot of people on there "just looking" for a date, a hook up, a potential relationship... but you don't really know what you're getting. Perhaps people don't take it as seriously as they would a paid service?

-A lot of information is optional. For example, you can leave out the fact that you've been married, have children, are unemployed, etc. I'd prefer to know this baggage right off the bat but I can understand why someone would want to keep their personal history under wraps at first. I like to know what I'm getting. That's just how I operate. I don't want to have to guess what's waiting for me behind door number 1.

-The site doesn't match you well. I'm not saying I know exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not saying that I haven't found some quality guys on the site. But I'm pretty sure that the 21 year old chain smoking bus boy with the huge tribal tattoo isn't someone I'd have much in common with. I want a guy who I truly have some stuff in common with so that I never have to have this kind of a conversation with my parents....

You may have a completely different experience depending on who you're looking for and what city you're living in. But generally speaking, OKCupid is one of the less serious, fun, cute, and light sites for internet dating. While it's fun to troll the internet for cute boys, what I'm ultimately looking for is something meaningful. Something more than just OK. Sorry, Cupid.

Semper Fidelis....or maybe not

I recently went out with a really hot guy that I met through a mutual friend. He's a Marine, part of the NYPD, and prides himself on being a gentleman. After texting for weeks, we met for a first date. We had a drink at The Boat Basin and ended our night in my neighborhood where he drove me home. He was a great date and did all the right things. He expressed his interest in seeing me again and our date was over too soon. The next day he texted me to let me know he had a great time and I was smitten and excited about seeing him again.

I was very optimistic about this one since he has such a great reputation. Until I never heard from him again. Nothing. And that's just plain rude. Especially since we both know we are bound to run into each other again because we have so many friends in common.

Semper Fidelis is the motto of the United States Marine Corps. It's Latin and translates to "always faithful." Sadly, this guy seems to only apply this to his career and not to his personal life.

Ironically, I'm playing Semper Fidelis (one of John Philip Sousa's most famous marches) in the pops group I'm performing with this summer.

I refuse to be this girl.

My time is too valuable to be waiting around for a phone call. Especially when I live in such a fabulous city with so many fun things to do.
