A Thanksgiving Acrostic

T - Turkey, of course

This year our turkey will be covered in crispy, delicious maple flavored bacon. I used this recipe for a turkey day meal in L5, my college apartment. For 4 college students, we put together a pretty amazing faux Thanksgiving day dinner. It was delicious and always brings back great memories

H - Happiness

Spending this day with my family makes me so happy. And at this meal, no matter what else is happening in the world, all is happy and calm in my world.

A - Apple pie

N - New York City

My favorite city. It's my dream and I'm living it. I just love New York.

K - Kindness

A little kindness can go such a long way.

S - Stuffing

G - Giving back

It's always important to give back. I recently went through my closet and gave away a whole bunch of clothes. It makes me feel great to give away things that I don't use away to those who really need it.

I - Important people

Friends, family, my boyfriend - all of the wonderful relationships that make my life rich and worth living.

V - Visiting home

There really is no place like home

I - Ice Cream (on my apple pie)

N - Nap time after a delicious meal

G - Grateful

While I plan to eat my share of Thanksgiving deliciousness, I feel grateful for all of the wonderful memories I take with me, all the good I have in my life, and all the things I'm looking forward to.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Game. Set. Match.

Match.com is advertised as the number 1 dating site. I had been on match.com for about 9 months. I had met 4 potential matches through this site (1, 2, 3, 4).

Clearly, none of them worked out.

After 6 months of unsuccessful matching, the company gave me another 6 months for free. It's a great perk. It's good customer service. However, it didn't change my results.

My typical match.com experience:
Mediocre guys send generic e-mails to me. Each day I sort through 6 profiles of potential matches that I receive from match.com. Each day I am "maybe interested" in one or two of them. Rarely am I actually interested in any of them. The IM function on the site works very poorly - I don't use it. Occasionally, someone will anonymously express interest in me. Occasionally, someone will "wink" at me. Rarely do I receive quality, heart-felt, well thought out e-mails from guys who I think have potential. When I do, the dates do not go well.

Maybe this site is full of shy guys. Maybe on match.com girls are more aggressive in their pursuits. If that is the case, then this site isn't for me. I'm definitely the not the pursuer type. I'm the old-fashioned "the-guy-must-pursue-me" type.

About a month ago, when I took down my profile, I felt the same pang that I feel when I try the latest diet fad and only lose 5 pounds after a grueling few weeks of starvation. The commercials always seem so promising and the first dates depicted in those 30 second time slots seem like they have so much potential. But my experience just didn't match up.

Luckily, I had already met a great guy on J-date. And while the dating game may be over for me, I feel that I came out a winner.

New York Minute

My new job serves as a reminder of how fast life moves in the big apple. I am so busy sometimes, I don't even know where my day goes. I forget important things (like eating and sleeping). One, because my job fills my day up with tons of important tasks (not to mention the fact that my social calendar is somehow always filled to the brim with afterwork and weekend activities - not that I'm complaining about that!). Two, because I'm still learning the ropes and want to make a great impression. And three, because it's a lot of fun!!

The things I do at NYP- WCMC (that's short hand for NewYork-Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical College) include planning events, going to parties, organizing budgets, going to corporate fairs to promote the organization, communicating to donors the many positive aspects of NYP-WCMC, and so so so many things in between. It's exciting and scary. Sometimes it's insanely frustrating and other times it's incredibly rewarding. Sometimes I feel like a big deal and sometimes I actually am!

Life is starting to fly by - between events and parties, budget planning and meetings, tons of schmoozing and canoodling with donors, weeks turn into months. I love being busy. But most of all I love New York, the city that never sleeps. Where there's always a new bigger better thing to do. Where every day is an adventure. Where life is filled with tons of interesting things and passes by in the blink of an eye.
